Sakuragi Hanamichi, Slam Dunk

Describe what their special powers/talents are:

Sakuragi is tall for a freshman, hitting a little over six feet. His basketball skills lay mainly in rebounding and dunking. He can jump incredibly high, making it a breeze to catch high passes, block shots, and rebound balls. His energy is incomparable. Three-quarters of the way into the game, and he is still as energetic as when he first started; he doesn't get tired easily. This can be a blessing and a curse -- the latter because it annoys most people around him, and the former because it's a great asset to have in games. He's been in fights a lot (one offhand comment can set him off, but the same comment said in a different time can have a different effect), and he usually wins them. People fear his headbutts, which leave the other person's forehead with a steaming bump. Usually, he's got his gang of four friends fighting alongside him; they're all very loyal to each other, even when they don't show it.

Provide a brief bio of your character's canon history (keep as spoiler-free as possible, please):

Sakuragi started out his freshman year with his 50th rejection; apparently, his latest crush was in love with a basketball player. So the redhead resorted to giving out his infamous headbutts to those who even uttered the word basketball (or something close to it -- 'biscuits, Baghdad Cafe'...). Ironically enough, he falls in love with a girl named Akagi Haruko, who asked him innocently if he liked basketball. Determined to impress her, Sakuragi joins the basketball team. Although the road to becoming a starter member is rocky, involving unlucky incidents with Haruko's big brother (the basketball captain), he eventually makes it.

He turned out to be a natural at the sport, excelling most in rebounding. Later on, the redhead became known as the Rebound King. He often boasts of being the tensai - genius - on the courts, especially during games, which irritates the opponents and his own teammates. His never-ending energy and sheer determination makes him a formidable opponent, on and off the courts. What began as an act to win Haruko’s heart became Sakuragi’s passion; and it also prevented Sakuragi from getting into any more street fights (even though he always won said fights). He still gets into fights with his rival, Rukawa Kaede (the guy Haruko has a crush on) though, but their competitive spirit just pushes them to do their best. Game after game, Sakuragi improves at a fantastic rate, surprising most of the audience with his quick growth.

Stubborn and a fast learner, Sakuragi becomes a valuable player in just four months time. And considering he hadn’t even played basketball before, the rookie was on his way to fame. He learns from his mistakes and fixes them quickly. He also has a short temper and loud mouth; not a very good combination. But with every game, he grows and learns. His fiery red hair is his trademark, but he shaves most of it off after a lost game against Kainan, in which he had made a terrible mistake of passing to the opponent instead of his own teammate with less than 20 seconds on the clock and 2 points behind. He bounces back from this tragic event after a few encouraging words from Haruko and a fist fight with Rukawa. The shaved head is supposed to be a reminder/punishment to himself of that time.

{ This point is around halfway through the manga, which is where I'll be taking him from. Sakuragi with his shaved head is the cutest. X) }
